Nothing is more frustrating than a valve that sticks or a slide that doesn’t move the way you want. Usually, the remedy is an ultrasonic cleaning to remove dirt, residue, and buildup inside the instrument that has accumulated over time. However, if more serious actions are required, Brass Monkey Music has the knowledge and expertise to diagnose and resolve the problem. Listed below are just some of the common repairs that trumpets and cornets come into the shop needing everyday:
Accidents happen! If part of your instrument has been damaged and cannot be repaired, we have a large supply of OEM and replacement parts both from suppliers and our own “junkyard” where obsolete instruments donate their parts to keep other horns alive. If a part cannot be found, one will be fabricated on site.
Are your valves aligned? Aligning the valves on a trumpet or cornet can make a big difference. Air travels through the ports in the valves and is directed to different slides to make different pitches. If the ports do not line up with the slides, the passageway for air is diminished, causing resistance that can be felt by the player and even heard by the listener. Using precision cut pieces of synthetic foam fit specifically to your instrument, valves are lined up perfectly, allowing air to move as freely as possible.
