Woodwind Instrument Repair

Saxophone Repair

If your saxophone is not playing properly, the problem usually is a leak has formed somewhere. Our technicians have the skill and experience to diagnose where the leak is and what it is being caused by. Here is a list of common reasons why your saxophone is leaking:

  • torn pads
  • build-up on tone hole
  • tone hole unlevel caused by dents or bent body tube
  • pad cups misaligned
  • posts unsoldered
  • keys not fitting tightly
  • keys out of regulation
  • missing key corks
  • neck not fitting tightly

As leather pads on saxophones age they dry out, shrink, harden, tear, and eventually lose their ability to seat properly against the tone holes of a woodwind instrument. Constant exposure to saliva, food deposits, and condensation inevitably causes the instrument to stop playing.  We stock only the highest quality pads that feature leather sealing surfaces and dimensional stability. By using superior materials in all of our pad work we help ensure that you get the best performance and the longest life out of your instrument.

Repad and Overhaul

When you bring your saxophone in for a repad or overhaul, the instrument is completly disassembled, ultrasonic cleaned, and all pads and corks are replaced. The instrument is then reassembled, pads are seated and corks are adjusted so that with an ultralight touch, your instrument has an airtight seal and plays better than new. Overhaul work adds an additional level of craftsmanship where each key is fitted to have zero lost action, fitting perfectly between posts and on a hinge rod. Every tone hole and pad cup is leveled and surfaced so that pads can easily seat. In instances where rust has damaged hinge rods, screws, and springs, they are replaced to ensure perfect action and tight fit. Cosmetic dents that may not affect the playability of the instrument, but drive the player crazy will be removed. Call for a quote today.
