It doesn’t take much for a trombone hand slide to feel sticky and sluggish. When in perfect playing condition, the outer hand slide should glide over the inner hand slide with such ease that friction of movement cannot be detected. Usually, a cleaning will accomplish this. Often however, a small ding or slight bend to just one tube will throw off the action and become a nuisance. With a thorough cleaning, careful removal of dents, and precision straightening, we will restore the action to like new.
Some trombones have one or two rotary valves that extend the range of the instrument and offer alternate positions for the player. The rotors are activated by a trigger connected by linkage. Rotors are very delicate pieces of bronze, custom fit to each individual instrument. Quite often, trombones come into the shop because some part of the rotor system is sticking or doesn’t feel right. At Brass Monkey Music, we have experience working on all the different systems and models. No matter what type of trombone you play on, no matter what the issue is, we have seen it before and we can help.
